The making of these works have been made possible because of family and friends. As a result, all the titles of my works since last year have originated from those feeling I have towards those relationships and thinking about what’s most important to me. My work can be viewed as abstraction but it is highly personal and always grounded in concepts about home, family and my identity.

These new abstracts have found me experimenting with different texture making techniques, using oil stick, charcoal, gel medium and even the humble texta. The process of making has been as important as the final artwork during this year. Discovering new mark making has pushed me out of my comfort zone and I’m learning to be less precious.

As an artist, this is what motivates me to continue to pick up a pencil or brush and keep making art.
